The Atacama Desert is one of the least populated and second driest (loosing just to the McMurdo Dry Valleys of Antarctica) desert on Earth. It is a plateau between the Andes Range and the Chilean Coast Range. With its oasis and Salinas (salt basins), it is an amazing extension of land and mystery.
